Green Lantern didn't do that great in the box office as much as Warner Bros. wanted it to, so they now want to make the next Green Lantern film more edgier and darker, like Nolan's Batman movies, so that's why they're going to go completely back to the drawing board for the sequel.
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros., told the Los Angeles Times, “We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience. To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action. … And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”
When will Warner Bros. learn that an edgier and darker tone isn't going to make a movie good, it just doesn't seem like it would fit with Green Lantern. Unless it focused a lot around Sinestro's Corps, then yeah, it would work. All they need is just a good solid script for it to be good with some good dialogue.
On another note, a "solid script" for a Flash movie has been made and might be released in 2014 and Warner Bros. is interested in the idea of a Justice League movie too.
