Reading books can help pass the time, so it makes sense for Sony to throw out some reading material until we wait for Uncharted 3. A new novel will be released before the game comes out and a six-issue comic book series will be making it's way after the game.
Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth will introduce Drake's new adventure on October 4 with Christopher Golden writing it. Interested in what the book will be about? Well go ahead and read this excerpt:
In the ancient world there was a myth about a king, a treasure, and a hellish labyrinth. Now the doors to that hell are open once again.
Nathan Drake, treasure hunter and risk taker, has been called to New York City by the man who taught him everything about the “antiquities acquisition business.” Victor Sullivan needs Drake’s help. Sully’s old friend, a world-famous archaeologist, has just been found murdered in Manhattan. Dodging assassins, Drake, Sully, and the dead man’s daughter, Jada Hzujak, race from New York to underground excavations in Egypt and Greece. Their goal: to unravel an ancient myth of alchemy, look for three long-lost labyrinths, and find the astonishing discovery that got Jada’s father killed. It appears that a fourth labyrinth was built in another land and another culture—and within it lies a key to unmatched wealth and power. An army of terrifying lost warriors guards this underground maze. So does a monster. And what lies beyond—if Drake can live long enough to reach it—is both a treasure and a poison, a paradise and a hell.
The new novel doesn't appear to be related to any of the games, so it's most likely a brand new adventure for Drake and Sully, along with a new mysterious girl.
After a near month of Uncharted 3's release, on November 30th, the new six-issued comic book series will be released. DC Comics will be picking up the series with Joshua Williamson as the writer and Sergio Sandoval with pencils.
The comic book series will take place before Uncharted 2: Among Thieves with Drake traveling to Earth's core to search for a legendary city (The Hollow Earth) which holds the Amber Room.
The novel sounds like it would be good, I would most likely be picking that up, but the comic series sounds like it's going to be amazing. The reason I love Uncharted so much is the sense of adventure and all the legendary places the Drake is searching for.
