Things are not getting too much better for Nintendo as they are now facing a bad financial year.
The 3DS sales started out horrible but eventually gained some good profit during the holidays last year, that wasn't enough though as Nintendo also faced an exchange rate of the yen and U.S. dollars that hurt them even more.
Things aren't going to let up for them as they are now expecting a bigger annual loss. Analysts originally reported that Nintendo was going to lose a total of ¥4.2 billion yen (over $54 million) by the end of their fiscal year, which is in March 2012. Nintendo is saying that it's going to be far more than what was previously expected as they are predicting to lose ¥45 billion ($575 million).
The loss of money is due to bad hardware sales and losing to major competition, but Nintendo seems to be optimistic as they say, "With the regained momentum and a strong lineup of software on the way, prospects for the platform remain strong."
When it comes to their hardware, Nintendo originally expected to see 3DS sales reach 16 million units, but they have now lowered their expectations to 14 million. They also originally stated that throughout the year of 2012, they will sell 12 million unites of the Wii, but they have now brought it down to 10 million; they currently have no projections for the Wii U.
Will Nintendo eventually bring their sales up with just games and hope that their hardware will sale or will they be forced to do things that they are against, such as developing games for phones/tablets?
