Marvel Goes MMO

April 30, 2011 1 comments

Marvel has announced their next biggest video game plan: A free to play MMO. It's all free that lets you play as any character in any Marvel event that's taken place from the 60's to now from the 616 universe. But that won't be the only universe you can explore, the Ultimate Universe will be included along with the Marvel Studio films.

You do not get to make your own character, instead you choose any character from a supposedly extreme list that tops any Marvel game. So far they have revealed Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Nova and Squirrel Girl.

The first platform to be getting this new Marvel game will be PC first with a TBA release date, then the consoles will get their releases.

People are wondering if it will be Disney like, and luckily Bendis has said that it won't be Disney like at all. The target audience are the adults.

So far, this sounds like it will be a big project, there seems to be a lot going on with the game. I'm extremely excited for this and will try to keep an eye on the progress. I might play as Squirrel Girl and unleash an army of Squirrels on Doctor Doom, I hope they'll let us do that. But for more information, take a gander here.

Portal 2 DLC This Summer AND Free

April 29, 2011 0 comments

Valve has announced that Portal 2 DLC will be coming out this summer and that it will be free for PC, Mac, PS3 and 360. The DLC will include new test chambers, leaderboards, and single/multiplayer challenge modes. Good ol' Valve given us what we need.

PSN Hackers Selling Info

There has been a rumor going around that the hackers behind the PSN dilemma are selling information they took from 2.2 million users on random forums. It's also rumored that they hackers tried to sell the information back to Sony, but they denied. These are all rumors and may not be 100% true..

But in good news, Sony has stated that the trophies for your games are unaffected, phew! And there are talks about ways for Sony to show appreciation to users and for us waiting. I demand for early released games, and for them to be free.

Beyonce Gets Sued By Developers

April 27, 2011 0 comments

Here is another law suit story for you guys, this one involving Pop singer; Beyonce.

The run version of this story is that a software developer, Gate Five, teamed up to make a game with Beyonce titled Starpower: Beyonce. After they agreed with their terms, Beyonce and her financier went back on their deal and demanded for more money, but Gate Five did not like this demand and couldn't afford it. Beyonce then backed away from the deal causing massive layoffs for Gate Five, about 70 people were laid off during the week of Christmas.

Gate Five retaliated by suing Beyonce for $100 million to cover for their loses. I think that's a fair deal, considering she went back on their contract and cut off all communications with Gate Five.

Sony Gets Sued

A law firm in California are starting to file lawsuits against Sony complaining that Sony did not take proper measures in securing their network with proper data encryption. Things are not looking good for Sony since each PSN user can get up to $318, these lawsuits can take Sony up to the billions though.

And with that, supposedly an investigation took place where there was data found containing no decryption, making it easier for hackers to get users' information. If this is true, then Sony is in a lot of trouble.

Dog Wars Pulled From Market

There has been much controversy over the Dog Wars app, many people complained so much about it; such as Animal Right Activists and Michael Vick (yes, THAT Michael Vick). The complaints were so big, that Google decided to pull the game off of their Market.

I'm not going to lie, but that irritates me a bit. I'm not all for real life dog fights, but people need to realize that this is just a game, it's not real life. There are tons of FPS out there, where you kill virtual people, and not so many people are all up tight about it. It sucks for Kage Games that they are being heavily censored because people cannot realize that it is just a game.

Jurassic Park Delayed

As everyone knows, the good games get delayed. And it's the same for Telltale Game's Jurassic Park. It's just been announced that they are going to release Jurassic Park this Fall as apposed to this month.

For all you disgruntled buyers, do not fret, because Telltale has offered something nice for the PC users who have preordered the game: a refund and a free game. Now that is rare for a company to do, makes me wish I preordered the game. But you get a complete refund and you get a free Telltale game of your choice.

The Avengers First Production Day

Yesterday marked the first day for the filming of the upcoming Avengers movie, just right after the last filming day of Captain America a few days ago. They are currently on set in Albuquerque, New Mexico and will eventually go to Cleveland, Ohio for their initial set. This movie won't have all the original Avengers team, but it will include; Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and The Hulk.

I'm excited to see how the characters turn out and watch them kick some ass! I wish that they would have included Wasp and Ant Man, and a Black Panther would have been awesome.

Hackers May Have Your Info From PSN

April 26, 2011 0 comments

Lots of people know that PSN is down because of major hackers. What people don't know is that those hackers might have your credit card info. The Sony PlayStation Blog states:

"Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1. Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2. Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3. Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information."

Followed by:

"Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birth date, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained."

It is not a for sure thing that your credit card info was obtained, but keep an eye on your card just in case. I'm not sure if I have my card on info, so I'll be keeping an eye on it. I mainly use the PSN cards for my purchases.

In good news though, the PSN should be back by next week.

Sony Goes Tablet

April 25, 2011 0 comments

Today, Sony has announced their two planned Android 3.0 tablets codenamed S1 and S2.They both include wi-fi and 3/4G connectivity. Their release are set to be this fall, but there is no word of a price tag as of yet.

The S1 tablet will be powered by a Tegra video card making it able to play Playstaion 1 games and their mobile based games with a 9 inch screen.

S1

The S2 is a design that looks so familiar, it folds in half like a Nintendo DS and acts like one; the top screen is for play while the bottom screen is for control with both screens measuring at 5.5 inches.

S1 (left) and S2 (right)

I'm quit excited for this, as much as the Gamestop rumored tablet. I just bought myself a Viewsonic G Tablet, and depending on the price (which I'm guessing will be maybe around $500) then I might get one or the other. The S2 looks interesting design wise, but looks like it can be easy to break if one accidentally slams the tablet closed. So I'm leaning more towards the S1 with its PS1 capability.

Nintendo's New Console Playable At E3

A letter from Nintendo has surfaced today about Nintendo's new console saying that it will be playable at E3 this Summer.

"To whom it may concern:

Re: Wii's successor system

Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.

We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.

Sales of this new system have not been included in the financial forecasts announced today for the fiscal term ending March 2012."

Its pretty interesting that it was just announced last week, and now they have a playable unit. I wonder how long they've been working on this one. But this new console is suppose to blast the Wii out of the water with:
  • Hardware comparable to the Xbox and PS3
  • A screen on the controller
  • Easy 3rd party development

PSN Suspended

April 24, 2011 0 comments

Here's an update about the PSN suspense, it seems like that Sony is temporarily shutting PSN/Qriocity down, but no one is sure when it will be brought back up. What they are doing is rebuilding the whole system, they're reprogramming their whole network, so that's going to be quite a down time for the PSN. The senior director of Sony's communications and social media, Patrick Seybold, states:

"We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security. We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available."

If you guys have any DLC or games you wanted to purchase online via your PS3, well, looks like you're out of luck. And I haven't updated my copy MvC3, and I was planning on doing it today also. But this will probably effect Sony in some great way.

Hopefully the new security will work and keep the troublesome hackers who started all of this away. Maybe they will even bring a new GUI to the table while they're working on the new PSN, that would be pretty neat. I just hope there won't be too many bugs right after it is finally released.

PSN Temporarily Shut Down

April 23, 2011 0 comments

The PSN has been down since April 20th due to attempted hackers. A Sony representative (Patrick Seybold) has stated:

"An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share."

Ill inform you guys if there are anymore related news about this. Hopefully things will get resolved soon, I'm sure many PS3 fans are lost and confused. I would be too if I depended on my PS3.

More Marvel Movies On Their Way?

In a recent interview with Kevin Feige (Film producer and the President of Production at Marvel Studios) states this:

"Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. —all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined."

So after the Avengers movie, there will be a Thor 2 and a Captain America 2. Along with a Black Widow, Hawkeye (will we see Mockingbird?) and a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie. But that's not even all of it, Feige just pretty much announced a martial arts movie (Iron Fist with maybe a Luke Cage cameo) or could it be a better DareDevil movie? There's a "cosmic space fantasies" section also, so that means that the Marvel Cosmic world will see the big screen. I hope that it';s either Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy. Hell, I would love a Silver Surfer one also. And there's also a confirmed Dr. Strange movie also.

I'm totally hyped for this, especially the Cosmic movies, they are going to be amazing. But I'm not that excited for a Black Widow or S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, but I'm sure it will bring in more fans for Marvel. Either way, this is a big move for Marvel Studios.

The Iron Age

April 22, 2011 0 comments

Dark Phoenix returns, heroes from the past to save the future, and Iron Man being himself. Now that sounds pretty awesome, doesn't? Well Marvel's next event for Iron Man is doing all that this Summer in The Iron Age which will start with Iron Age Alpha, continue with 6 one shit comics and conclude in Iron Age Omega.

The story is pretty much like this: One of Iron Man's foes uses one of Dr. Doom's time machines to bring back Dark Phoenix as she destroys the Earth. Iron Man is then stuck in the past asking for past heroes help to restore the present. The heroes are as follows:

  • Luke Cage
  • Dazzler
  • Iron Fist
  • Captain Britain
These 4 heroes, along with Iron Man, will have to work together in order to restore Iron Man's present. Don't forget that this means will be seeing them in their old outfits. Ah yes, Luke Cage running around in yellow with his tiara.

I found this quote quite interesting from Marvel's blog about The Iron Age:

"How will Tony Stark feel when he talks to The Wasp long before she dies in Secret Invasion or Johnny Storm before he dies in the Negative Zone? Does he warn them of the events to come?  Dare he?”

So this might be pretty emotional and challenging for Tony Stark. How will he do? Find out This June.

Farewell DS Lite? (Update)

This picture has been circulating around the net that was taken at a GameStop. This note states that the DS Lites have been discontinued, but no one is 100% sure if Nintendo is really doing this or not. It makes sense for this to happen though since the 3DS was just released. But it is still sad to hear since the DS Lite is my primary handheld device and secondary gaming device, so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. I'll keep you posted and find out if this discontinuation is true or not.

Update:
So it seems like this notice is true, the DS Lite is being discontinued. It is indeed a sad day now. You shall forever be missed DS Lite.

Mario & Sonic: London Olympics

April 21, 2011 0 comments

The forever beloved Sonic and Mario are at it again, competing for the gold medals in London this time for the Wii and 3DS without a for sure release date. People are speculating that it will come out around the time as the London Olympics next year.this grand event will contain over 50 different types of games, which I'm excited to see.

Only thing I'm not too fond of is that it won't be for the regular DS, I preferred both Beijing and Winter Olympics on the DS instead of the Wii. I would love to get London Olympics, but I'm not too sure for which system I will get it for.

New Mass Effect 3 Screenies

April 20, 2011 0 comments

GameInformer was given two exclusive screen shots of Mass Effect 3, which are nicely polished. I can't wait for this one to hit the shelves. I need to replay the first two for a bit of a refreshment.

The Last Guardian Delayed

Everyone knows that the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus collection has been delayed, now The Last Guardian is following its footsteps. Fumito Ueda (Director/Game Designer of The Last Guardian) has stated:

"I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011. However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing. All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality. I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for 'The Last Guardian' for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time"

Its not known yet exactly when The Last Guardian will get it's release date, but now I have to wait even longer for all three games.

Portal 2 + Super 8 = Blown Mind

April 19, 2011 0 comments

I know in an earlier post I said it maybe would have been the last Portal 2 post for awhile, well, I didn't know this would have popped up.

If you look through the extras menu in Portal 2, you will see that Valve has teamed up with J.J. Abrams (The director of Super 8 and Cloverfield along with Lost) in order to make an interactive teaser for Abram's upcoming Super 8 movie.

If you don't have the game, you can watch the awesome video here:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard in Dark Knight Rises

Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard have been announced to join the cast in Dark Knight Rises, but not as everyone expected. Lots of people expected Corillard to play as Talia al Ghul and Gordon-Levitt to play as anyone from Riddler to Hugo Strange. But instead, Corillard will be playing Miranda Tate (a Wayne Enterprises board member) and Gordon-Levitt will be playing John Blake (a cop commanded by Commissioner Gordon).

I would've been more happy with their rumored roles, but I guess this is a good thing since they won't be cramming so many characters into one movie.

Portal 2 With Hats!

So it seems like my latest posts have been Portal 2 galore. Well, I can assure you this might be the last one until I get my hands on a copy.

Anyways, what is a Valve game without hats? Nothing! That's what. The TF2 team threw in some hat codes in Portal 2 at the last moment. The hats can be worn by the two co-op bots and that hats that are worn will be:

  • Mann Co. Cap
  • Prince Tavish's Crown
  • Pyro's Beanie
  • Fancy Fedora
  • Master's Yellow Belt
  • Tyrant's Helm
If you own any of these hats in TF2, they will be transferred over and made wearable.

Portal 2 Swag

The Valve Store has updated their site with new Portal 2 merchandise, which includes lots of shirts and posters.

Not much of the new stuff interests me besides these:

The Turret Moon shirt is the most hilarious thing in the world, I would rather wait to see if they have new things later in the future though.

Ultimate Spidey Not Dead

April 18, 2011 0 comments

Marvel is not done with Ultimate Spider-Man after its Death of Spider-Man storyline. They have announced that there will be a new Spider-Man alone with a new costume and story after the conclusion (which will be Dead of Spider-Man #160).

I have yet to read the latest Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers vs. New Ultimates, but I plan on doing so tonight to catch up. I'm just one issue behind on each one. The new costume looks pretty nifty, just wish there was more stuff on the lower part of this new Spidey's outfit. I'm definitely  excited to see how this whole thing turns out.

Portal 2 Released

The dedicated fans have done it, Portal 2 got its early release tonight. But not at midnight, it was unlocked at 9:30 pm Pacific Time. Enjoy your game you test subjects, and enjoy your triumph. I would if I had the game, its a sad day for me.

Portal 2 Midnight Release? (Updated)

If you guys head back over to the Aperture Science again, you'll notice a different countdown, the potato count is going down fast. A friend informed me that it might be a midnight release countdown. So it looks like Valve will release a game early instead of late. I will post a screenie later of the site, I am currently on my tablet and cannot do so.

I was finally able to get a screenshot for you guys and along with the picture is new text:

10:50 - Engaging starch-based power cells
11:00 - Reboot safety test protocol initiated...
11:00 - Relaxation chamber locks released...
11:00 - Involuntary hazard mitigation associates have assumed testing positions...
11:00 - Pre-release lethality assessment initiated...
12:40 - Calculations complete for Audiosurf. Recalculating a new launch projection...

Just 5 more games that need completion, I wonder what will happen if all games get completed. Maybe an even earlier release?

Duke Nukem Beta

April 17, 2011 0 comments

This isn't very newsy, but I wanted to inform you guys that I received a beta code for Duke Nukem from a friend today and will try to install it and play it as soon as possible and give a review.

Honestly, I was never a fan of Duke Nukem. I have never played it nor found it remotely interested, hey, maybe this beta play will make me fall in love with it. But anyways, I'll keep you posted when I come around to giving the game a go.

I also have that Darkspore beta to try out also, if I get around to that one too, then I'll write a review.

Portal 2 Update

April 16, 2011 1 comments

The Aperture Science site has changed once again, but it's not a major difference, the GLaDOS output text has changed into:

08:57 - Default boot scheduled to finish in 64:33:14
08:58 - Activating emergency distributed computing grid...
09:00 - GLaDOS@home starting...
09:01 - Recruiting cpus to force faster boot sequence...
19:55 - Calculations complete for The Wonderful End of the World. Recalculating a new launch projection...
11:55 - Calculations complete for 1... 2... 3... Kick It!. Recalculating a new launch projection...

Two of the Potato Sack games have been completed and only eleven remain.

Portal Collaborative Disposition Test

April 15, 2011 3 comments

Over at the Thinking With Portal website there is a test to see which Portal character you would be. The only two results I know of are Ratman and Chell. It's a pretty entertaining survey, what were your results?

This is what I got:

You're the quiet, artistic type, happy to ponder the solution to a puzzle in quiet solitude. Compatible cooperative test partners include introspective loners, deaf-mute invisible people, and mannequins.

Nintendo HD

Well, it looks like that there have been rumors floating around the internet about Nintendo's new HD console and its supposedly reveal date is to be E3 this summer. Along with that, there are rumors saying it's controllers that will have a built in HD screen.

I found this all out on GameInformer, if you're interested in a more depth article go check it out. It talks about the HD Console itself and the controllers.

Portal 2

A couple of days ago www.aperturescience.com showed a countdown for Portal 2, now that countdown has changed. First a message is typed out from what seems to be our beloved GLaDOS:

09:00 – Hello again.
09:00 – I’ve been waiting a long time for this.
09:00 – I know it’s arriving later than expected.
09:00 – But I have a message for you:
09:00 – April Fools.
09:01 – I’m joking.
09:01 – Seriously, though:
09:01 – You’ve been surprisingly competent at
09:01 – generating electro-chemical energy to jumpstart the system.
09:01 – But now we need raw computational power
09:02 – to speed up the reboot process.

After awhile, the page changes into this:

On this changed site, Steam is keeping track of the Potato Sack games and it seems like if a certain amount of players buy the pack or play the games, Valve will release Portal 2 early.

If this is true, then that will be a first for Valve since they always aren't always the most reliable when it comes to their releases. I can't wait for the more secrets they will have in Portal 2 and their files, hell, I can't wait for the game itself. Too bad I have to wait awhile to actually get it, wish I could though.

Make sure to keep checking the website to see if Valve changes everything, I'm going to be keeping a tab on it.

Nintendo Release Dates

April 12, 2011 0 comments

While scrolling through GameInformer, I found a list that Nintendo released giving release dates for the Wii, DS and 3DS for the next few months. The only noticeable game for the 3DS is Ocarina of Time, other than that there's nothing good for it yet.

Hell, nothing good is really coming out for Nintendo's consoles any time soon, Conduit 2 and OoT are the only ones that catch my eye.

Secret Pokemon Egg at Toys 'R' Us

The Pokemon Company has announced today that there will be a special even at Toys 'R' Us from April 27th to May 31st for your copy of Pokemon. The egg is to contain a Pokemon that one of the main characters (Ash, Iris and Cilan) in the show have. So it can be a Axew, or maybe a Pidove or either a Pansage. No one is sure if it will be a regular Pokemon or one with some special stats.

So make sure to go down to your nearest Toys 'R' Us and pick up your mystery egg. I know I will, it gives me an excuse to go shopping for myself.

Cloak and Dagger Miniseries

April 11, 2011 0 comments

I totally forgot about this, but a couple of days ago, Marvel has announced a new miniseries featuring the dynamic duo Cloak and Dagger. There's no set release date, but this could be pretty good. Cloak and Dagger mainly make small appearances in other comics and don't really have a big comic publication.

Cloak and Dagger will be written by Nick Spencer, who is currently writing on Iron Man 2.0, which is pretty good. I'm liking Iron Man 2.0, so I'm sure I would enjoy this miniseries.

Pokemon Global Link

On April 13th, Pokemon players will finally be able to access the Pokemon Global Link that includes the use of the Dream World via their website.

Dream World will let you enter your Pokemon's dreams and access a whole knew world where you're able to capture stronger and new Pokemon along with items. Once you get those items in the Dream World, you are then able rip them right out of your Pokemon's dreams and access them in your Black/White copy.

Make sure you get your account and start your animal slave trading in dreams, because the real world isn't enough.

Mass Effect Anime

April 7, 2011 0 comments

EA has announced this morning that they will be working with Funimation in order to create a Mass Effect anime. According to their press release, "the anime video will tell the tale of an epic science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets." It seems like that the anime won't feature Sheperd and his gang, instead it will show other life forms. I enjoy that EA and Bioware has made expansions outside of the games. Either way, I'm pretty excited about this and want to see if any Turians will have any exciting roles.

Also, make sure to get your hands on the May edition of GameInformer for 12 pages of exclusive information on Mass Effect 3.

Fear Itself First Thought

April 6, 2011 1 comments

Fear Itself has been released today, and I just finished reading book one, and I have to say that this is going to be an excellent event. You've got Sin, Red Skull's daughter, picking up a hammer like Mjolnir and Odin leading the God's out of Midgard back to Asgard.

I believed that Civil War and Seige were the best events Marvel has had, and Fear Itself might beat it by the looks of it. I really can't wait till next month to get Book 2 and find out who the Worthy are. I highly recommend any comic book reader to get this. Best part of the comic was this here:

It wasn't an all out brawl between Thor and Odin, but nontheless it was incredible and made me wanting more.

I'm not sure if the Watcher will have a role in the upcoming books, but he does make a cameo in Book One.

The Watcher & Odin

Gang Garrison 2

April 5, 2011 0 comments

Looking around today, I've stumbled upon an 8-bit version of Team Fortress 2. And it's pretty nice and entertaining for it being free, and it's not just free, it's an online game. It's pretty much just like TF2 but with just extremely toned down graphics. What I like about it is that it has all 9 classes and they do what they're suppose to do. You've got the medic with his medigun and the airblasting Pyro.

If you're interested in Gang Garrison 2, then head over there and download it.
