Ubisoft Being Sued, Assassin's Creed III Could Be Cancelled

April 18, 2012

Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed III might be in a heap of trouble as Ubisoft is being sued for for taking ideas from the book "Link" written by author John Beiswenger.

Earlier this week Beiswenger files a complain complaining that Ubisoft has stolen ideas for the Assassin's Creed universe from his book. In Link, the story is based around a "device and process whereby ancestral memories can be accessed, recalled, relived, and re-experienced by the user." (Just like Assassin's Creed's Animus device.). The similarities don't end there though, the book has assassinations and historical events in which the user experiences due to what the ancestor has been through.

If this does go through and the judge does agree that this is in fact copyright infringement, then Beiswenger might be getting up to $5.25 million in damages and if the judge rules that Ubisoft knew that they knew about Link prior to the concept of Assassin's Creed then Ubisoft will be forced to halt any Assassin's Creed products, including Assassin's Creed III.

Soo I hope he'll be happy knowing that he may have destroyed the best game series yet to exist... *tisk tisk*
