Minecraft In The Palm Of Your Hands With Pocket Edition

August 16, 2011

Different types of video games are being ported to Android and iOS devices everywhere and Minecraft is no exception, well except for the iOS that is. For all you Android Xperia owners, you are now able to have Minecraft in the palm of your hands.

Mojang, the creators behind Minecraft, has announced that the alpha version (Alpha 0.1) of Minecraft: Pocket Edition has hit the Android Market for Xperia owners for just $6.99; don't worry other Android users, Mojang has stated that in "the near future" is when Minecraft will be available for us.

Along with the above statement, they have also said:

"We have tried to put in the features that make sense for playing on a mobile device while still keeping the core of the Minecraft experience. You will be able to select blocks on the touchscreen or just scroll through them with the circle and square buttons on the Xperia Play device. The first version also supports multi-player on a local wireless network allowing you to create a world and invite friends to build together."

The features that are included in this build are as follows:

  • Ranomized worlds
  • Build anything you can imagine
  • Build with 36 different kinds of blocks
  • Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network)
  • Save multi-player worlds on your phone
  • Frequent updates

This port is currently available for all Xperia users, so if you have the extra cash, go buy it! Hopefully, when it's released for other Android Devices, my rooted tablet will be able to support it.
