X-Men Regenesis Review

October 12, 2011 0 comments

X-men Schism was a starting point that would in the end change the X-Men Universe, it put mutants and readers alike in the spotlight in order to choose a side: Wolverine's or Cyclop's. Who would go with who? And that's what Marvel's X-Men Regnesis One Shot was all about. In X-Men Regenesis, Wolverine goes around recruiting mutants to join his newly formed school.

What I really loved in here was Billy Tan's visual representation of Logan's and Cyclop's battle to recruit their friends to their cause. It was a great visual metaphor, but it took me a few pages to realize that Cyclops was the one wearing the lion head. The artwork in whole was great, but I think the artwork for the metaphor was probably the best thing about the comic.

The writing was nice also, it was straight forward and didn't stray at all. Kieron Gillen wanted to tell the story of how the X-Men will take sides and that's what he did, with each character having their own reasons; Colossus stayed on Utopia in fear that his newly acquired powers would put people at risk, Nemesis is staying because an experiment he's working on can't be moved and Prodigy stays due to ideology reasons. There were more characters that gave their reasons, such as Magneto, Rogue, Danger, Moonstar, Avalanche and ect. Even someone who I haven't seen in a long time has taken a side, Toad begged Wolverine to take him as a janitor.

One thing I didn't like about the comic was the lack of Professor Xavier. The only comics I read X-Men related are Uncanny X-Force, Uncanny X-Men and X-Men, so I don't know if he appears in X-Men Legacy or what but the lack of Xavier in the comics disturbs me, I would like to know what side he would have chosen; he could have chosen to stay with the man he personally put in charge or he could go back to teaching mutants how to control their powers. I really wish Gillen could have put Xavier in and give him a voice.

It does seem like Cyclops has the power hitters on his side; he's got Colossus with the power of Cyttorak, Storm, Namor and Magneto (and Emma if you consider her to be on their power level). Wolverine of course has the children of Utopia, since that's why him and Scott got into a brawl in Schism, but he has also gained the trust of Beast and Iceman; I'm pretty content with that. Hopefully this will allow writers to show Iceman more.

I was happy when I saw Storm about to go with Wolverine, but then Scott had to sweet talk her to staying because he doesn't have pure-hearted people backing him up. I was also happy to see Emma ready to leave Scott also, but Gillen had to tease us by making her stay.

I think the events following Schism is going to be great, the X-Men have split up and Marvel is going back to the classic X-Men in which mutants can go to a school to learn how to control their powers, but at the same time, there modern X-Men is still staying in the Marvel Universe; old school vs new school.

X-Men Regenesis Teasers

September 17, 2011 0 comments

Marvel has released a few teaser images for the upcoming X-Men Regenesis event. Two of them are of Scott trying to recruit Psylocke and Storm to be on his side. One of Kitty and Colossus looking like they're going to break up, Moonstar kissing Sam and Lauri pointing a gun at an unknown person.

It seems like Psylocke will be spying on Cyclops for Wolverine, most likely. And the reason for Kitty and Colossus breaking up is because of Colossus' new fate as Juggernaut.

X-Men And Their Future

July 22, 2011 0 comments

San Diego Comic Con is a perfect time for Marvel to discuss their plans for certain Marvel heroes, and today were the X-Men's day.

The world of X-Men is changing with Schism going on and lots of changes will take place during the events of Schism and afterwards.

Starting with X-Men: Regenesis in October, mutants will start to separate from one another and form their own groups with their own ideologies. Wolverine and the X-Men will also hit in October while Uncanny X-Men gets a renumbering. Marvel has released a picture for Uncanny X-Men, but notice that someone is missing?

Cylops isn't at her side on Utopia and Marvel won't tell us why. Instead, we'll have to read Schism and it will be revealed to us.

All X-Men titles will be affected from this mutant shaking event, even Uncanny X-Force will face something, despite them currently running their Dark Angel Saga.

Ron Gamely will be returning to Wolverine in the aftermath of Schism as he's being forced out of San Francisco for an unknown reason. Arune Singh says this about Wolverine:

"He needs some money, so he goes to his stash. But someone's stolen his stash, and that's a very bad idea. He's going to get it back, and he'll tear apart San Francisco to find it."

X-Men, X-Men Legact, Generation Hope, and X-Force are the only comics that will be continuing after the events of Schism.

People have always wondered why X-Men don't play a large role in the Marvel Universe like all the other heroes. Axel Alonso says that, "there's a reason 'Fear Itself' and 'Schism' come to a conclusion the same month." And that the X-Men will have a pretty important role in the Marvel Universe.

Moving away from Schism, Wolverine's female clone will be taking on the FF in an upcoming X-23 comic, and his son, Daken, will still be trying to sneak his way to the top as a crime lord in L.A. where he'll encounter Moon Knight. Singh says that there's a reason why L.A. is starting to become popular in some Marvel titles.

Yesterday, Marvel announced a new character, Evil Deadpool. Daniel Way explains how Evil Deadpool forms, "Evil Deadpool is a collection of Deadpool's former body parts that were thrown into a dumpster and gelled together." He continues to say, "Evil Deadpool does lead into something really big, but I don't have clearance to talk about it yet."

One audience member asked about Jean and if she's coming back, in which Rick Remender replies with, "It's not the 616 Jean, but Jean plays a big role in 'Dark Angel Saga.'" By the looks of it, Marvel has no intention to do anything with Jean besides the Age of Apocalypse Jean.

Lots of questions were asked about returning characters, like Mimic, Psylocke, Maggot, Cable and Scarlet Witch, but Marvel isn't giving much away about them. Axel Alonso hinted that Cyclops might not be around  when he said, "don't assume Cyclops will be around."

Lots of stuff will be going on in the X-Men Universe, and they seem pretty big and important to the whole Marvel Universe. I'm pumped and can't wait to see all the plans; I wanna know what happens to Cyclops and Wolverine and how other mutants will deal with Schism.

X-Men Schism #01 Review

July 14, 2011 0 comments

I just finished reading the first issue of X-Men: Schism, that comic made was full of fun, memories and shock. The prelude to this new X-Men event made it seem like something cosmic was coming for the X-Men, and one theory was that the Dreaming Celestial, Tiamut, was the one watching over them and knowing what they're planning. In reality, they were talking about humanity going back to hating and fearing the entire human race once again.

Schism starts off with Cyclops and Wolverine heading to an Arms Control Conference were Cyclops demands a partition in order to disassemble every Sentinel that every country is holding. Cyclops' demands are cut short when Kid Omega jumps into the conference and a telepathic burst against all the politicians, forcing them to spout out all their personal secrets, trying to show the world that human kinds' leaders are a bunch of no good liars (like we didn't already know that). Due to Kid Omega's interruption, a small army of Sentinels are sent to capture anyone with the descriptions of "male" and "mutant", making Wolverine and Cykes caught in the middle.

This causes a huge spark that creates burning emotions hatred and fear of mutant kind once again. Many leaders of various countries felt as if they were provoked and sends out their various designs of Sentinels to retaliate against the mutant race; North Korea being one of them. After seeing all of the Sentinels being released, Cyclops feels as if he has to fight back.

In the end, Kid Omega's attack is revealed to be provoked by a kid, Kade Kilgore, the son of Carlton Kilgore who is a arms manufacturer against mutants. Kade snuck into Utopia and busted out Kid Omega, but made Kid Omega think that it was himself that escaped. Kade did all this to become the New Black King of the Hellfire Club.

The Wolverine against Cyclops battle is an old thing, but this might be the breaking point for the two teammates. We know that this is what's going to break up the X-Men; Cyclops is going to prepare an army of mutants to prepare against the Sentinels while Wolverine thinks that not every mutant should be a soldier, that not everyone is ready, especially Hope's team. Wolverine wants all the kids to stay away from this battle while Cyclops wants to include them.

One thing I loved about this comic was Wolverine showing affection towards Idie by giving her a doll, reminding her of what she use to have. Wolverine's and Cyclops' different views are clearly different in this issue, and I love it. Jason Aaron is doing an excellent job with this and it's just been one issue, I can't wait to see what he has to offer for the rest of the series. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to read more X-Men comics, along with the prelude issues.

Thanos and Retro Cyclops by Bowen Designs - Update

July 5, 2011 0 comments

Bowen Designs has done more Thanos and Cyclops statues and they look extremely nice. I can't find a price or release for them, but I want them so badly along with other statues Bowen Designs has done. Most of their stuff looks really polished, and the poses the characters are in are awesome. I would have to be rich or have tons of extra money to afford one of the statues, since some of them are almost $300. A man can wish though!

Update:

It looks like Bowen Designs is planning on working on a Magneto statue. Marvel just released a picture of its concept art. This one is wickedly awesome, I can't wait to see the final for this.

X-Men Schism

May 25, 2011 0 comments

For anyone who has been reading the latest X-Men event. Prelude to X-Men Schism, and been wondering what the hell is going on, Marvel has finally shown some light for us. X-Men Schism is basically about a mutant related international devastation that tears up the X-Men team and will introduce a fight between the leader of the X-Men and the most feared of the X-Men; Cyclops against Wolverine.

I'm guessing that Wolverine will go against Cyclops because of an extremely tough decision Cyclops makes, which can be seen in the Prelude to Schism. Most likely Cyclops sends hundreds of mutants to their deaths and that doesn't settle with Wolverine. Either way, we'll find out what's really happening July 13th.

Fear (part 2)

Another picture of Marvel's mystery "Fear" was released. This time it shows Cyclops wearing Magneto's costume. So apparently it's not Ultimate Universe related for this clearly looks like Earth 616 Cyclops
