Who is your favorite original founding Avenger?

Wolverine Anime Review

August 2, 2011

Who would've thought that an anime featuring a tall, skinny, hairless, teen age like Wolverine would actually be decently good. I for sure thought that the anime version of Wolverine would've been hilariously bad, well, I was wrong.

This adaption of Wolverine focuses more on the Japanese life of Logan's, with Mariko Yashida and her father, Shingen Yashida who is a Yakuza crime boss. In the first episode, Logan is basically trying to track down Mariko, who's been kidnapped by her own father. Wolverine goes from New York to Tokyo in order to get back his love.

Canadian beer is the only beer for Wolverine (love this scene)

Wolverine finds out where Mariko and Shingen is at and sneaks into their property where Shinken then discovered the whereabouts of Wolverine's hiding spot in the bushes. Logan and Mariko's old man gets in an argument with Mariko right there. Shinken then challenges Wolverine to a sword fight saying that if he lost, then he will hand over Mariko to Wolverine, and Wolverine being himself, accepts the duel.

After Shinken laying down some skin breaking blows, Wolverine then charges a Shinken, but gets brought down by the man Mariko was forced to marry - Hideki. He shot a dart in the back of Wolverine that was filled with some type of chemical. Wolverine's mutant gene wasn't enough for the dart since he gets right back up and yells as he unsheathes his adamantium claws.

Wolverine isn't the best adaption of the loveable Snikt Bub, but it's not the worse either. Only problem I really had was how Wolverine is being portrayed. If you just jumped into the middle of the show, you wouldn't even really know that it's a Wolverine related show. He acts like a typical cool teenage anime character, which isn't Wolverine at all. Everything about him is pretty bad, except for the first minute and a half of the show; the opening was probably the only part that kinda had Wolverine sound like he was Wolverine. Either than Wolverine's bad portrayal, I'm really digging the show; I just really like how it's focusing on the Japanese life of Wolverine, shows usually show the Weapon X part, so this is nice and new.

Overall, I'd give it 7.5/10, way better than the Iron Man anime.
