Ubisoft Releases Free-To-Play Ghost Recon

November 25, 2011

Lately Ubisoft has been speaking out against PC games because of piracy issues, they have also gone off and made some PC gamers upset. So it's no big surprise that Ghost Recon Future Soldier won't be coming onto the PC, instead Ubisoft will be releasing a free-to-play game called Ghost Recon Online.

“We are giving away most of the content for free because there’s no barrier to entry," says Ubisoft's Sébastien Arnoult. "To the users that are traditionally playing the game by getting it through Pirate Bay, we said, ‘Okay, go ahead guys. This is what you’re asking for. We’ve listened to you – we’re giving you this experience. It’s easy to download, there’s no DRM that will pollute your experience.’"

Ubisoft believes that PC Gaming is not that big and that it would be a waste and time to port Ghost Recon Future Soldier onto the PC because they think that the demand for the game on the PC is too low.

"Perhaps it will only take twelve guys three months to port the game to PC, it’s not a massive cost but it’s still a cost. If only 50,000 people buy the game then it’s not worth it.”

For those that are excited about the free-to-play Ghost Recon, it is currently in a closed beta but it is now available for those in France and Germany. The UK should be expecting it to be released in the next few months; no news on a US release.
