S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Cancelled, Survarium Takes Its Place

April 25, 2012 0 comments

Rumors were going around earlier that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled, but then the game's developers, GSC Game World, said that the game wasn't cancelled and was still being worked on. That is not the situation today though.

Today GSC Game World has been shut down, meaning S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is now cancelled.

Luckily some former GSC Game World employees have started a new game developing studio, Vostok Games and they won't be bringing back S.T.A.L.K.E.R. anytime soon.

"We did not reach agreement with the rights owner regarding the use of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand, that’s why we made the decision to move forward as an independent studio with a new project. That day became our starting point for Vostok Games," the team said on its official website.

Instead of making the now cancelled game, they are moving on to make Survarium, which is a free-to-play online first-person shooter game that is the "next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R."

There is not much information on the game considering it's been in the works for 10 years besides the concept, concept art (pictured above) and that it won't come out until 2013 on the PC.

Moon Knight Ends With Issue #12

January 23, 2012 0 comments

Marvel fans face another cancelled series as Moon Knight comes close to an end in just a few more issues..

Written by Brian Michael Bendis and with art done by Alex Maleev, Moon Knight #12 will be the last issue starring the crazed Fist of Khonshu.

"I look at it as a 12 issue maxi series that kicked incredible ass!" Says Bendis. "Which was what me and Alex were hired to do. I do wish it had sold better and I do wish it was continuing with another team. But I wish that about every comic on Earth. But I am grateful we got to do our entire 12 issues. When you get to 12 you'll see we got to tell our entire story uninterrupted with is very nice. And for you guys that supported it, you'll have a nice whole thing. As for me and Alex, back to 'Scarlet!'"

"It was not a mini series. I was being coy. Alex and I signed on for the year," Bendis continued. "But what it costs to keep me and Alex on a book, it was clear that was all they would need from us. I hoped it would keep going with some new talent or something, but it isn't. Sad face. Very proud of the book. You're going to get a big story out of it."

Seems like you really do have to have 'Avenger' in a title to stay afloat (being an Avenger doesn't cut it), it's a shame all these good comics are coming to an end.

The Batman Game That Shouldn't Have Gotten Cancelled

January 13, 2012 0 comments

Day 1 Studios, the developers for F.E.A.R. 3, has announced that they were working on a Batman game that was based off of the Gotham by Gaslight story in 1989. Unfortunately though, the game got cancelled.

Gotham by Gaslight takes place in 1889 where Bruce Wayne is accused of being a serial killer who has come to Gotham - Jack the Ripper. Bruce is imprisoned after a bloody knife was found under his bed, but with the help of Alfred he was able to escape and find out who the real murderer was.

The cancelled Gotham by Gaslight game was found out when artist Julie Farrel uploaded her concept designs for the game's menu and controls on her personal blog.

Daken: Dark Wolverine Is Coming To An End

The wave of comics coming to and end for Marvel doesn't stop. Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor-in-Chief, has announced that Daken: Dark Wolverine will be ending early next year.

The exact date for when Daken's on going is going to end, but issue 21 will supposedly be the first issue of the final story arc.

Axel Alonso also commented on the cancellation of X-23 along with the cancellation of the many other comics that have come to an unfortunate end.

“It’s always disappointing when a title comes to an end. I’ll bet everyone reading this column still mourns the death of a title or two they loved – and wonder why the book didn’t stick," says, Alonso. "And I guarantee you that as frustrated as a fan might be, there’s a writer, artist and an editor who are even more disappointed. That’s just the way things go sometimes. The market won’t support it.

“That said, I’m proud of X-23’s run,” he continued. “Two successful limited series and an ongoing series ain’t bad. Ditto for Daken [who is also ending his series]. From a supporting role in Wolverine: Origins to the lead of ongoing series that included him slicing Frank Castle to bits – enter Franken-Castle.  Both were characters that gained traction in a market that, well, doesn’t really have a great track record of supporting new stuff. And both characters anchored legitimate monthly titles. We don’t do R&D at Marvel. We’ll stick by a title for a while – like we did with Spider-Girl – but there comes a point where that title has to earn, usually sooner than later.”

Marvel Cancels Black Panther And Ghost Rider

November 17, 2011 0 comments

Marvel has announced some sad news today, Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive and Ghost Rider will be getting the axe. They both will stand next to X-23, Alpha Flight, Victor Von Doom, Destroyers, Iron Man 2.0 and All-Winners Squad as they also were cancelled within the last month.

Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive will be ending with issue #529 and will finish with the Kingpin going against Black Panther. Black Panther's latest run was ended due to low sales in October with Marvel only selling 18,000 copies.

Nine issues after Alejandra became the new Ghost Rider, starring Johnny Blaze as the co-star, her ongoing series too has been cancelled for low sales in the month of October. The official announcement of Ghost Rider's cancellation came from Ghost Rider writer Rob Williams when he jumped onto Twitter and said, "Sorry to confirm the news about Ghost Rider's cancellation. It's disappointing. Thanks to everyone who bought the book."

Unlike Black Panther, Alejandra will be making a return in February during Marvel's mini Venom event along side X-23.

It's such a shame that these two titles got cancelled, I was really enjoying Black Panther and I was excited to see what this new Ghost Rider was going to bring to the table. I'm hoping that no other on-going series gets the axe; too many non-group or non-Avengers related titles are getting cancelled when they don't deserve it at all.

Marvel Cancels Destroyers

Another Marvel comic will is getting the same fate of Victor Von Doom, Alpha Flight, Iron Man 2.0 and All-Winners Squad. It has been announced via Van Lente's Twitter today that Marvel has cancelled the Destroyers.

Destroyers was planned to be a five issue miniseries that starred She-Hulk, The Thing, Beast, Devil Dinosaur and A-Bomb in which the heroes would fight the monsters who answered to an unnamed Marvel villain and in the end, the heroes would receive a cure for their nonhuman like appearance.

Luckily writer Fred Van Lente and artist Kyle Hotz were already paid for their unpublished work for the short lived mini series. Van Lente is also currently working on another unannounced Marvel series.

When I first read about this, I thought it said Defenders; I almost had a mini heart attack, but then I realized it said Destroyers. On another note, I dislike how Ben Grimm's temporary cure is hasn't been mentioned again since before Johnny's death. Strike that, I was just reminded that the cure lasts for a week once a year when I thought it was one day a month. But I do hope that they bring it back since it's already been a year.
