SOE will be rolling out another DLC pack for DC Universe Online that focuses on the Scarlet Speedster - The Flash. The titled "Lightning Strikes" will be available on the PlayStation 3 and PC later this year and will contain a new map, new powers, new gear, new characters and a team-up with Flash.
The DLC pack will cost free and premium players $9.99 whereas legendary players will be getting the content for free.
Here are the new features that "Lightning Strikes" contains in detail:
Central City - An all-new map that offers players a more open world experience that provides on-going gameplay, with solo and group missions.
The Flash Museum Duo – Players can now experience the Central City of today and tomorrow. In The Flash Museum Duo, players can travel back in time to the very moment when Barry Allen became The Flash and battle foes inside the Central City Police Station!
Electricity Powers– Players now have the opportunity to get the new Electricity Power set for current and new characters. The new Electricity Power set allows players to leverage the lightning power of electricity and use new types of attacks in combat. Electricity Powers include the Tesla Ball, which creates a floating ball of electricity that zaps nearby enemies; the Shockwave, which shoots streams of electric bolts at enemies; and Ionic Drain, which drains energy from the environment to replenish a player's health while simultaneously damaging surrounding enemies.
New Gear– Players can earn all-new gear sets including the new Zoom-inspired gear set for villains, and the new Black Lightning-inspired gear set for heroes.
New Characters – Lightning Strikes brings players new iconic DC Universe characters including Livewire, Black Lightning, The Top, The Trickster, Static and more. New characters – such as Livewire – will be featured as new "Inspired By" options for players who can choose to create a new character inspired by some of DC Universe's legendary characters. Additional new characters – such as Black Lighting – serve as a bounty mission that players can fight if they choose to be a villain.
DC Universe is a beautiful MMORPG that has recently become F2p, and many have jumped on the bandwagon to play it, including myself.
The character creation is alright. It's in the medium for me, because you can't customize as much as you'd like to, but enough to be semi satisfied. You can choose body types that are already preset for you, luckily it has presets for almost all height types.
This video can help you get the jist of it.
I got my idea from Tigra from Marvel. Except I went a little cheesy and took snow leopard= ice powers, and mixed it together.
If you are good or bad, fire or ice, it won't change sets you can get via customization, which is kinda nice.
I myself, choose batman as a mentor, ice as a power, and flying as my movement.
The flying is EXTREMELY fluid in movement. It's probably the most fluid feel I have ever gotten from any game, which makes it very fun to fly around. Here's a pic of me flying around in some snow drafts.
The music is pretty nice, it's not your typical cheesy online game type of music, it can be pretty intense for some areas. Especially when you are flying around large areas, did I mention how BIG the maps are in this game? The cities are HUGE! And you are free to move almost every where in them. They are so big in fact, that flying/running around to get to places actually will take so much time that it becomes annoying. Luckily around level 9 you can get a speed boost, it really comes in handy for achieving your destinations faster.
The best way to level up is by missions/quests. Bad guys really don't give much exp unless they are field bosses. As soon as you level up, you get points to pick out a new power from a skill tree.
Here is a video of the skill trees.
Since my power is ice, I have powers such as knocking people around with giant ice blocks. As you can see in the picture below..
Or charging up to shoot ice beams at people.
The bosses can actually prove to be challenging, which makes me feel more as if I am playing an actual boss with good AI as opposed to it sitting there and just attacking me. There have been times where I have had to use some strategics to help my team out. Sometimes you can't just simply spam mouse 1 and mouse 2. Here's a video of a battle that seemed sorta difficult for my party and I, just a little different from the same instance we did. But you can get an idea from it.
At first I didn't really find myself playing this game an hour straight, but once you get into it, it can be very time consuming, and all the missions you can do with friends...can be very fun.
So far I give it a 8/10, and I think it's worth trying.
After joining the list of games that are free-to-play, DC Universe Online has gathered quite a few extra players on the PC. More than 120,000 players have signed up and played DC Universe Online. The numbers for the PlayStation 3 have yet to come in.
I have yet to download the game yet, I've still been busy with Uncharted 3, but I heard the game files is about 13GBs. If they really are that big, it might take awhile for me to get it up and running, I might as well start downloading it now.
For those that wanted to play DC Universe Online for free, the day has finally come. Yesterday, DC Universe Online officially became free-to-play.
There will be three tiers for players - Free, Premium and Legendary.
Free: New players will now have access to the current gameplay in DC Universe Online (including Gotham City, Metropolis, and all current raids and alerts), with the ability to create two characters, join a league, and many other benefits. Free level players will be able to purchase downloadable game packs/updates, additional character slots, powers, and more through microtransactions.
Premium: Any player who has spent at least $5 USD (including former paid subscribers and new players who have purchased $5 of in-game items) will qualify for the Premium access level. Premium level players will have more benefits available to them than the Free level player, including additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits. Downloadable adventure packs, additional character slots, and more can be purchased in-game.
Legendary: Maximum features and benefits are included at this level. Loaded with enhanced additional features, Legendary access will be available for a $14.99 USD monthly fee and includes all DLC packs at no cost, more than 15 character slots, more than 80 inventory slots, the ability to form unrestricted-sized leagues, and many other benefits.
I'll have to download and play DC Universe Online within the next few days.
Back in September, it was announced that DC Universe Online would be free-to-play in late October. The date for it's release has been pushed back, but don't worry, it won't be that far since everyone will be able to play it November 1st.
There will be no charge to download it and play it, it's all completely free starting in late October. There will also be three different types of players - Free, Premium, and Legendary. The descriptions for each are as follow:

DC Universe Online has been on my list of video games for awhile, but I have been forced to remove it due to lack of money to pay for the subscription fee. If it was free-to-play, I would be taking on enemies from all sizes, joining the Justice League or trying to kill Batman...oh wait, I can next month.
Sony Online Entertainment will be making DC Universe Online a free-to-play game on the PlayStation 3 and PC; there will be no charge to download it and play it, it's all completely free starting in late October. If you have already bought the game discs, then you're automatically a Premium member, and if you want to go Legendary, you would need to continue to spend the extra $14.99 a month.
I'm sure this will get a big flock of users to come and try out the game, I know I will be in October. But what's neat is that there aren't many big limitations. Free players can do what the Legendary or Premium players can, except they don't get bigger sized slots or more money. And I don't mind spending $5 just to become a Premium member at all.
I'm not too sure if rage will spread throughout the community just like Team Fortress 2's community got mad when Valve decided to make TF2 free-to-play.
