I'm sure that not very many people were expecting Fortnite to be the game that developer Epic Games was going to announce last night at the Video Game Awards. Fortnite is a cartoon style game where you build things to help you fend off zombies during the night.
“We’ve had amazing success with games like Gears of War and Infinity Blade this year, but we decided it was time to switch things up a little bit and do something different and fun,” said Cliff Bleszinski, design director at Epic Games. “Imagine a world where you explore, you scavenge, you build and ultimately you survive.”
Fortnite is definitely different than anything Epic Games has put on the table, everyone is so use to the developer producing shooter style games; Fortnite will have shooter elements in it, but that's not what the whole game is about according to Bleszinski. It will focus more on surviving against whatever the creatures are (mutants or zombies, or possibly the creatures are something else).
Currently, Fortnite does not have any signed publisher, the goal of the trailer is to draw any publisher's attention and see where it goes from there.
If you want to hear more about what Epic Games has planned in the future, then watch this back stage interview during the Video Game Awards.

As for the trailers that were shown, there was an excellent amount showing off an excellent assortment of games. We got new trailers of new games and new trailers of games that have already been announced. I personally am hyped up for The Last Of Us; Naughty Dog has done an excellent job with their games and I think this is probably going to be their best one. I don't care if I don't know anything else about the game, I like it and I want it. When I first saw the trailer, I really had no idea what to expect; so I wasn't really expecting some type of mutated thing with a head that looked like it exploded jump at the main characters. Graphic wise though, I think The Last Of Us looks remarkable.
The Transformers: Fall of Cybertron trailer was another great trailer this year, every thing was absolutely perfect about it; the music fit with it, there was some emotional baggage with Optimus carrying wounded Bumblebee and then you knew shit was going to go down when Optimus and Megatron was looking at each other. But no fighting took place, something even better happened - Bruticus came on screen followed by Grimlock.
Fall of Cybertron won best trailer and The Last Of Us won best newly announced game to me. Those aren't the only trailer to receive recognition, there were tons of other trailers that were revealed. We were shown trailer for the following:
A trailer for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was shown last night at the Video Game Awards to get fans pumped up. As for it's release date, Namco said that it should be out next year during the holiday season.
The first trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Patriots was shown at last night's Video Game Awards. I'm sure fans are going to be happy about the trailer, but they won't be happy once they find out that Ubisoft is shooting for a 2013 release date.
Another trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron has been released that shows off the devastating war between Autbots and Decepitcons. The trailer makes the game looks absolutely phenomenal, especially when Bruticus and Grimlock make their appearance in the trailer.
The game has also received a Fall of 2012 release date, the exact day is unsure at the moment.
Just the other day, Cliff Blezenski said that a new game that Epic Studios has been working on a new game. I will say, this is not a game I was expecting to be made from Epic games.
Fortnite involves cute and cuddle zombies that live underground and a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic cartoony world. The game reminds me of a mix of Plants vs Zombies, without the plants, with graphics that resembles Team Fortress 2 a bit, but with the Unreal Engine.
If you are already pumped for Diablo III, then this brand new cinematic trailer Blizzard has released is going to probably force you to flip shit over.
I, personally, am not a big fan of Diablo, but I will admit that this is one hell of a trailer; Blizzard is known to do some pretty nice visual trailers for their games.
After an extremely long time of waiting, Konami has released more information about Metal Gear Solid: Rising via a trailer full of gruesome sword fighting done by the one and only Raiden.
The game looks like it's going in a whole different direction; with the player controlling Raiden and not Snake, it seems like stealth is out of the question, but revenge won't be out of the question at all apparently.
Irrational Games was able to show their newest trailer for BioShock Infinite tonight. The trailer shows what you will be pitted up against as you cruise around Columbia with Elizabeth while being attacked by citizens and the Songbird.
Beenox was able toshow off a new trailer tonight for The Amazing Spider-Man video game. The trailer showed off who Spider-Man will be fighting - Robots! The Amazing Spider-Man will be put up against giant mechanized fiends developed by the sinister Oscorp.
The trailers just don't stop at the Video Game Awards! BioWare not only released a trailer for Command & Conquer: Generals 2, but they also released one for Mass Effect 3.
The trailer Sheperd and his gang fighting against the Reapers, and Sheperd is running like a madman as he avoids heavy artillery. Apparently, he also gets some kind of help from a giant sand worm, looks like a nasty and big Thresher Maw, to take down a Reaper ship.
BioWare has teased us with a mysterious image of an upcoming game that was suppose to be fully shown at the Video Game Awards tonight. Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is what BioWare has been so secretive about.
The game is, of course, a sequel to the 2003 Command & Conquer: Generals game released for the PC.
More information on the mysterious PlayStation 3 exclusive title, The Last of Us, has been given to us. Such as that Naughty Dog will be the ones developing the game.
Along with that, we were also given a debut trailer with some pretty damn nice graphics. Whatever creatures are in the game are crazy as hell; I can tell this is going to be one amazing game. The creatures seem to be some type of mutated humans in a post-apocalyptic world.
Tony Hawk earlier this week announced that he will be announcing something today at the Video Game Awards and we now know what that something is - Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD.
This HD remake will take selected levels from the first two Tony Hawk games and update the graphics for digital platforms sometime during the Summer of 2012 for under $20. Two levels that will be making it to the HD game is "School" and "Downhill".
I guess I got the time wrong for Spike TV's Video Game Awards, thus meaning I have missed all the hullabaloo, which I doubt wasn't much. But there was trailers and news that were thrown out, which is what the Video Game Awards should be all about!
The first trailer I'll show you guys is the newest Hitman game, Hitman: Absolutution. The exact release date is not known for the game, but it will be out sometime in 2012 on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
There is a secretive new game that is being announced this weekend at the Video Game Awards called The Last Of Us.
The Last Of Us is an PlayStation 3 exclusive game that only has two videos and two images that was just released today over at their website. One trailer shows riots and crazy people doing crazy things and the other video is of an ant with a parasitic fungus. One image is of plants with the sun glaring at the camera and the other image is of a newspaper stand that is old and busted up.
I have no idea what the game is about, but I want it!
A new trailer has been released for Beenox's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man for the Video Game Awards this Saturday. The Amazing Spider-Man is full of web slinging and robots and is due to come out this summer along with The Amazing Spider-Man movie.
For their 20th Anniversary, Epic Games will be making a special announcement during this years Video Game Awards.
Cliff Bleszinski assures us that they have a whole brand new game they will be working on and it will be announced on December 10 on Spike TV's Video Game Awards
BioWare definitely has something cooking over at their studios for an image of a new and unnamed projecthas been released.
There is extremely very limited information on this image, but BioWare will be revealing more at next month's Video Game Awards on Spike TV, which will be airon on Saturday, December 10 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
The picture itself shows cars crashing in the middle of a desert with some guy being ejected from his car because of the crash. It looks pretty interesting, BioWare surely has gotten my attention with the picture.
