Today, alternate costumes have been revealed for six fighters for
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which means thirty-six costumes are being shown off for Hawkeye, Dr. Strange, Dormammu, Firebrand, Nemesis and Tron Bonne.
Let's start off with the bow and arrow wielding Aveger, Hawkeye.
This will be Hawkeye's default color scheme for the game, nothing too special about it really.
Hawkeye's second costume is from Clint's first appearance in
Tales of Suspense #57.
The third color scheme comes from the mind of Rob Liefeld which was designed during the Heroes Reborn event back in '96. You can tell it's a Liefeld piece by the bulging muscles, hell, you can easily tell that it's also from the 90's.
Fourth costume up is inspired by Ultimate Hawkeye, with his more modernized costume. I once again wish that these were costumes instead of color schemes so they costumes could at least look identical to the inspired designs.
Inspired by
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Clint will be wearing my favorite costume, which I'll be sporting when I have Hawkeye on my team.
Hawkeye's last costume is from a SNES game called
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, in which all characters in the game had evil doppelgangers, even Hawkeye. So Capcom gave us an evil Hawkeye.
Next up is the Sorcerer Supreme!
This will be Dr. Strange's default, with his classic look.
There isn't anything special about Strange's blue costume, except that he decided to wear all blue for awhile.
His third costume comes from
War of the Gems, just like evil hawkeye, but the costume was also worn by Steven back in the 90's.
I would really like this scheme more if it weren't for the cape and Strange's skirt, too bad it kind of ruins it for me.
The origin of this color scheme comes from the animated movie
Doctor Strange.
Another great costume that is ruined by the skirt and cape, I'd so be using this one if it weren't for those. Anyways, this one comes from
1602, where super heroes were kicking it, all the way back in 1602.
Third character for color schemes is Dormammu.
Dormammu's default design, and returning from
MvC3 comes from
Defenders back in 2005.
Strange Tales was a comic that debuted a good amount of characters, and issue #126 was Dormammu's first appearance with his very green design.
This color scheme resembled the one above, with just a brighter green and orange. Oh, and a purple flame engulfing Dormammu's head.
This palette swap comes from Captain America/Nick Fury - The Other World War I believe.
Dormammu's red and blue alternate colors comes from
New Exiles Annual #1.
This one is probably my favorite costume for Dormammu, which comes from Warren Ellis'
Nextwave.
Firebrand, Genesis and Tron Bonne really don't have much inspiration besides random color palettes. Tron has two returning, two updated and two that are completely new and Firebrand and Genesis obviously are all new.
Firebrand's default color scheme is this red color pictured above. Capcom decided to use primary colors for Firebrand, hence the blue and yellow pictured below.
This black and red look was given to Firebrand to give him a villainous look, by using an Onyx color, considering that he is an enemy to Arthur. The color scheme was used with Blackheart in
Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Since Firebrand is a Gargoyle, it was smart of Capcom to try to get him to look like a gargoyle as best as they can. It might not look too much like a gargoyle, but Capcom had a difficult approach trying to texture it right.
Capcom wanted to also give Firebrand a goblin/reptile look instead of a gargoyle look, so Green Goblin gave them some inspiration.
So far I'm not really digging these color schemes for Capcom's side, Marvel obviously has a lot of things to get inspiration from. Let's see what Nemesis has in store for us.
Nemesis' default color scheme is his classic dark colored trench coat.
Anyone can throw in a red color to Nemesis' coat and call it a day, but Capcom didn't just want any red, they wanted to get the right color red. The red here is suppose to a represent dried-blood red.
Nemesis' next costume resembles the Man-Thing with his ghoulie dark green skin and jacket.
A blue tone given to Nemesis to give him a more dead and zombie-ish feel since the game he comes from deals with zombies and the dead.
No, Lady Gaga wasn't the one who inspired Capcom to give Nemesis a meat colored tone. Actually, this color came from Capcom trying to make Nemesis look cute by applying a pink color to him; we all know how that turned out now.
"Nurse Nemesis" turns away from the dark and ghastly colors and heads towards the all white aspect of things. This one is probably my favorite palette swap for Nemesis, I really do like how it's completely different.
Last but not least is Tron Bonne, she will return with two old color swaps, two updated ones and two complete new ones.
Tron's default scheme is the same ol' same ol' and has been seen many times.
Mega Man Legends players should be able to recognize this color scheme as it is to resemble Roll Caskett with her red and white outfit and yellow hair. Too bad Tron is missing Roll's hat in here, it would make it look nice.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 players will also notice that this alternate color scheme comes from there.
Tron was made to look like a guy with this alternate, the guy being her brother. Tiesel is the inspiration for this design, all she's missing are her brother's eyebrows, other than that, I'm digging this one.
Tron's other brother, Bon Bonne, gave inspiration to this scheme also.
For the final alternate color scheme, Capcom wanted to give Tron a cutesy look, this time it didn't end up with her looking like a giant slab of meat; this one also comes from
Marvel vs Capcom 2.
That's it for today's costume picks, Thursday will be the day when more alternate color schemes will be released. My favorite ones so far are Hawkeye's
A:EMH and Dormammu's
New Exiles Annual #1. Anyways, come back Thursday and I should have the next line up for you guys!
