2012 Might Be The Year For Marvel

November 12, 2011 0 comments

2012 is going to be one crazy year for Marvel readers, there are going to be a lot of events going on and a lot of interesting stories will take place. This Wednesday Point One was released, the comic that previews what Marvel has in store for us.

First we were given a glimpse of Nova returning frantically trying to warn others about the return of the Phoenix. It's not exactly told that this Nova is Richard Rider and honestly, this Nova looks a little smaller than the Nova we are use to. If this is Richard Rider, than where is Star-Lord? That's who I'm more interested in!

The second story that in Point One deals with those new and mysterious characters. Well, we found out who they are, where they are from and what their motives are. The five person group are fighters that are fighting against a world full of mutants in order to have the humankind not go extinct. All this doesn't take place in the 616 Universe, this new story in facts takes place on Earth-295 which is also known as the Age of Apocalypse.

The third story tells readers what to expect of Kaine as he travels around trying to prove to himself that he doesn't have to be a monster, but instead he can actually do good and be a hero.

The fourth story told introduces a pair of new heroes and a new villain in the form of a company that plans on doing some sort of evil. The story follows two siblings, Zaoxing (Dragonfire) and Wanxia (Coldmoon), were separated at birth but both thought to be dead from one another. In truth though, a company named Taiji Corp kept kept both siblings separated from one another with lies until they both escaped using their fire and ice powers. From there, the siblings meet up with the Avengers who will need help taking down Taiji Corp.

Dr. Strange deals with a weird turn of events in his story. Strange helps Joe escape a trance-state he is in where he finds out that a mysterious machine lays wait in his future. Strange has no idea what this machine is, but it looks like the Defenders will be involved.

Ultron makes a devastating return as him and copies of himself attacks Hawkeye, Spider-Man and two other people that I can't really identify, one of them might be Punisher but I'm not too sure. The whole area where Ultron attacks the heroes looks shanty and run down, so its safe to assume that Ultron has been around for awhile and that the Avengers were not able to stop him.

All these stories were great and leaves me impatient as I am now forced to wait for an Ultron event and Age of Apocalypse event. It really does seem like Marvel is going back to the 90's for inspiration for their future stories, you've got the Phoenix, Ultron, Scarlet Spider and Age of Apocalypse going on which were big deals back then.

Hawkeye, Strange, Dormammu, Firebrand, Nemesis and Tron All Get Make Overs In Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

August 30, 2011 0 comments

Today, alternate costumes have been revealed for six fighters for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which means thirty-six costumes are being shown off for Hawkeye, Dr. Strange, Dormammu, Firebrand, Nemesis and Tron Bonne.

Let's start off with the bow and arrow wielding Aveger, Hawkeye.

This will be Hawkeye's default color scheme for the game, nothing too special about it really.

Hawkeye's second costume is from Clint's first appearance in Tales of Suspense #57.

The third color scheme comes from the mind of Rob Liefeld which was designed during the Heroes Reborn event back in '96. You can tell it's a Liefeld piece by the bulging muscles, hell, you can easily tell that it's also from the 90's.

Fourth costume up is inspired by Ultimate Hawkeye, with his more modernized costume. I once again wish that these were costumes instead of color schemes so they costumes could at least look identical to the inspired designs.
Inspired by Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Clint will be wearing my favorite costume, which I'll be sporting when I have Hawkeye on my team.

Hawkeye's last costume is from a SNES game called Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, in which all characters in the game had evil doppelgangers, even Hawkeye. So Capcom gave us an evil Hawkeye.

Next up is the Sorcerer Supreme!

This will be Dr. Strange's default, with his classic look.

There isn't anything special about Strange's blue costume, except that he decided to wear all blue for awhile.

His third costume comes from War of the Gems, just like evil hawkeye, but the costume was also worn by Steven back in the 90's.

I would really like this scheme more if it weren't for the cape and Strange's skirt, too bad it kind of ruins it for me.

The origin of this color scheme comes from the animated movie Doctor Strange.

Another great costume that is ruined by the skirt and cape, I'd so be using this one if it weren't for those. Anyways, this one comes from 1602, where super heroes were kicking it, all the way back in 1602.

Third character for color schemes is Dormammu.

Dormammu's default design, and returning from MvC3 comes from Defenders back in 2005.

Strange Tales was a comic that debuted a good amount of characters, and issue #126 was Dormammu's first appearance with his very green design.

This color scheme resembled the one above, with just a brighter green and orange. Oh, and a purple flame engulfing Dormammu's head.

This palette swap comes from Captain America/Nick Fury - The Other World War I believe.

Dormammu's red and blue alternate colors comes from New Exiles Annual #1.

This one is probably my favorite costume for Dormammu, which comes from Warren Ellis' Nextwave.

Firebrand, Genesis and Tron Bonne really don't have much inspiration besides random color palettes. Tron has two returning, two updated and two that are completely new and Firebrand and Genesis obviously are all new.

Firebrand's default color scheme is this red color pictured above. Capcom decided to use primary colors for Firebrand, hence the blue and yellow pictured below.

This black and red look was given to Firebrand to give him a villainous look, by using an Onyx color, considering that he is an enemy to Arthur. The color scheme was used with Blackheart in Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Since Firebrand is a Gargoyle, it was smart of Capcom to try to get him to look like a gargoyle as best as they can. It might not look too much like a gargoyle, but Capcom had a difficult approach trying to texture it right.

Capcom wanted to also give Firebrand a goblin/reptile look instead of a gargoyle look, so Green Goblin gave them some inspiration.

So far I'm not really digging these color schemes for Capcom's side, Marvel obviously has a lot of things to get inspiration from. Let's see what Nemesis has in store for us.

Nemesis' default color scheme is his classic dark colored trench coat.

Anyone can throw in a red color to Nemesis' coat and call it a day, but Capcom didn't just want any red, they wanted to get the right color red. The red here is suppose to a represent dried-blood red.

Nemesis' next costume resembles the Man-Thing with his ghoulie dark green skin and jacket.

A blue tone given to Nemesis to give him a more dead and zombie-ish feel since the game he comes from deals with zombies and the dead.

No, Lady Gaga wasn't the one who inspired Capcom to give Nemesis a meat colored tone. Actually, this color came from Capcom trying to make Nemesis look cute by applying a pink color to him; we all know how that turned out now.

"Nurse Nemesis" turns away from the dark and ghastly colors and heads towards the all white aspect of things. This one is probably my favorite palette swap for Nemesis, I really do like how it's completely different.

Last but not least is Tron Bonne, she will return with two old color swaps, two updated ones and two complete new ones.

Tron's default scheme is the same ol' same ol' and has been seen many times.

Mega Man Legends players should be able to recognize this color scheme as it is to resemble Roll Caskett with her red and white outfit and yellow hair. Too bad Tron is missing Roll's hat in here, it would make it look nice.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 players will also notice that this alternate color scheme comes from there.

Tron was made to look like a guy with this alternate, the guy being her brother. Tiesel is the inspiration for this design, all she's missing are her brother's eyebrows, other than that, I'm digging this one.

Tron's other brother, Bon Bonne, gave inspiration to this scheme also.

For the final alternate color scheme, Capcom wanted to give Tron a cutesy look, this time it didn't end up with her looking like a giant slab of meat; this one also comes from Marvel vs Capcom 2.

That's it for today's costume picks, Thursday will be the day when more alternate color schemes will be released. My favorite ones so far are Hawkeye's A:EMH and Dormammu's New Exiles Annual #1. Anyways, come back Thursday and I should have the next line up for you guys!

Dr. Strange Movie Is One Step Closer

Supposedly, today, Thomas Donelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the screen writers for Conan: The Barbarian has just turned in a script to Marvel Studios for a Dr. Strange movie in an attempt to expand the Marvel Universe on the big screen. This isn't for sure confirmed though, it's just a minor rumor going around at the moment, but it most likely is true. If this rumor is true, expect a release of the Sorcerer Supreme movie sometime in 2013

It's Either In You Or Not

Marvel has been leaking out these Fear Itself related pictures, possibly showing who the Mighty are since we know that Iron Fist and Dr. Strange are part of the Asgardian Magic Powered heroes. This probably won't help figure out who the two females are that no one can figure out. I've changed my main guess of one of the being Mocking Bird to Black Widow, it would make more sense since Black Widow has a tie-in with Fear Itself.

More Marvel Movies On Their Way?

In a recent interview with Kevin Feige (Film producer and the President of Production at Marvel Studios) states this:

"Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. —all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined."

So after the Avengers movie, there will be a Thor 2 and a Captain America 2. Along with a Black Widow, Hawkeye (will we see Mockingbird?) and a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie. But that's not even all of it, Feige just pretty much announced a martial arts movie (Iron Fist with maybe a Luke Cage cameo) or could it be a better DareDevil movie? There's a "cosmic space fantasies" section also, so that means that the Marvel Cosmic world will see the big screen. I hope that it';s either Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy. Hell, I would love a Silver Surfer one also. And there's also a confirmed Dr. Strange movie also.

I'm totally hyped for this, especially the Cosmic movies, they are going to be amazing. But I'm not that excited for a Black Widow or S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, but I'm sure it will bring in more fans for Marvel. Either way, this is a big move for Marvel Studios.
